The Gardens

Designed by highly acclaimed landscape architect Anthony “Tony” Holmes of Philadelphia, the spectacular gardens of 7116 Glenbrook Road set the tone for unparalleled at-home outdoor enjoyment. From the storybook entrance with a meandering creek and Chippendale style bridge, the 1.7-acre sanctuary is a haven for privacy and exceptional living. Cultivated with care for over 55 years, today’s mature pathways and allees, water features and parterres form garden “rooms” with a wide array of shrubs, perennials and specimen trees to delight the senses throughout the year.

The 115-foot formal grass walk, with two sets of grass steps, is lined with perennials, and leads to a raised Haddonstone fountain that is set between curved stone knee walls.  An arched wrought iron gate serves as the backdrop. An ancillary pathway leads to the Gardener’s Cottage and the swimming pool. The pebble dash stucco stable, lovingly referred to as “The Barn,” was built in the 1800s. It is original to the property and has been transformed into the Pool House. With entrances on two sides, one opens to a viewing terrace for the green clay “rubico” tennis court while the other overlooks the 40’ x 15’ swimming pool. There are two full bathrooms, a sauna and a kitchenette inside as well as a spacious central activity room. Other notable outdoor “rooms” include an intricately knotted boxwood parterre and a second boxwood garden where heirloom roses perfume the perimeters and herbs and annuals may be found. Both are situated between the Greenhouse and the Kitchen, and close to the Informal Dining Terrace.
